Like the seasons, trends come and go. Some are super cool and trendy, such as oversize flare jeans, a personal favorite of mine. Then, there are some trends such as Crocs that just won’t die, because “they’re comfortable”. Regardless, I have tried most trends on the fashion scene, except for Crocs, sorry those are just offensive. As a self proclaimed fashion guru it’s important to keep on top of the latest trends in whether I like them or not, I will always give it a try. Unless it’s Crocs, then no thanks! I always enjoy exploring a new trend and figuring out how I can style it with pieces I already own. A new trend for summer that has arrived on the scene are paper bag shorts. These shorts tend to be available in a comfortable, light weight material and are literally everywhere!
I have stumbled upon so many cute varieties, styles, colors and budgets for paper bag shorts. This trend is one of the easiest, most transitional trends, too. It’s not even Summer yet and I can’t even tell you how many different ways I have styled them so far. My first and favorite style of the paper bag shorts were these high waisted sash tie utility shorts from Express. I will be perfectly honest, I was truly on the fence about this look and the whole trend in itself. I am a die hard denim shorts kind of gal, so swapping my cut-offs for a more polished look is a bit of a change for me. Despite theses feelings, I went for it. Plus, I was head over heels in love with the eggplant color the shorts were available in. I knew the exact look I was going for when I paired it with this sophisticated, yet sexy button down in mauve. May I just say, I totally nailed this look, paper bag shorts were my official new summer obsession.
Quickly, I found these comfortable shorts were basically available everywhere. I love how easy they are to style with so many different pieces such as a cute cardigan for a chilly Spring day. Or for a desk to dinner look, add a polished, oversize blazer and bring some sexy pumps to change into and you’re set for the evening. These shorts are seriously only made in the coziest materials, too. Light weight, stretchy denims; linen with tons of give and silky flowy with elastic waistbands. That is what I love about fashion, when a trend is hot, it is hot. And the paper bag trend is sizzling. How would you style your paper bag shorts?
