What To Wear Wine Tasting or Flower Picking

If you are heading to the farm stands this fall or to your local vineyard for wine tasting, you might be a little unsure about what to wear. While there ​isn’t any dress code, you should always wear what you’re comfortable in. Here are some tips to ensure you are prepared.

Heels or Flats

Some vineyards or farm stands have paved walkways, and seated tasting areas​,​ but you are mainly on your feet. Besides standing all day​,​ you should expect to do a lot of walking. Weather you are walking through a sunflower field, pumpkin picking or taking a tour of a vineyard​, it is best to leave your favorite stilettos at home. Hurting your feet, damaging your sexy shoes, and possibly twisting your ankle after a few drinks are not my idea of a fun farm stand day. If you want to wear a heel for some height, wear a chunky, sturdy heel or your favorite flats.

Wear Layers

Since most vineyards have outdoor patios for​ guest​s to take in the beautiful views, mak​ing​ sure you’re dressed for the outdoors is key to being comfortable. The time of year and area you’re visiting will impact your style. Layering your outfit or bringing a jacket to leave in the car is always a great idea. If the forecast calls for clear skies, don’t forget the sunscreen, sunglasses and hat.

Denim

For the ladies out there who are worried about being over or under dressed, find a middle balance. Farm stands and wine country is more of a casual place. You can pretty much wear denim anywhere and be as comfortable as you’d like and you’d fit right in. Jeans are always in style and easy to dress up. A blouse with wedges can always look effortless and comfortable. A dress with some booties can look boho chic. Just find whatever your style is that makes you comfortable.

Keep It Simple

If you are like me and tend to head to the restroom a lot, you want to make sure to keep it simple. Don’t wear a complicated outfit. Dealing with all those extra buttons, straps and ties is not how you want to spend your day. Wear clothes that you are comfortable in so you can focus on having fun.

Choose Your Colors Wisely

​​Unless you plan on sipping on white wine all day, spills are something you need to factor in. Even if you’re not tasting red wines, other people might be and it can end up on your clothes. Wearing darker colors can help camouflage if this happens. I would wear white with caution. Even if heading to the local farm stand, with all the dirt and grass, your jeans and favorite dress might get ruined from dragging on the floor.​

If all else fails and you don’t know what to wear there is always Pinte​rest. Before heading out anywhere, I always head to pinterest and search for outfit ideas and picture styles I like for a little inspiration. I pin all of them in separate folders that way when I go to any new location I have all of these idea’s of what style shots I am looking for and what kind of outfit I want to wear.
