If you know me at all, then you already know I am loyal to all the neutrals, monochromatic ‘fits and all black everything, with the occasional and repeat offender pop of leopard.
Maybe you’re like me and occasionally fall into a wardrobe rut…wearing the same ol’, same ol’. Although there is absolutely nothing wrong with relying on what works (I mean if it ain’t broke, why fix it?), but sometimes you just want to switch things up a little. In this post I am taking my usual wardrobe suspects and mixing them up with some patterns, color and fun accents to elevate the ordinary.
First up is this cream cableknit sweater. I mean who doesn’t have something like this in their closet? A recent purchase, I love the tunic length of this one and the movement the side splits provide. A basic like this provides the perfect base to ground a more colorful piece like this embroidered mini skirt. Styled with a neutral clutch, complementing over the knee boots and gold accessories and it all comes together.
For a cooler toned take, I styled this leopard mini wrap skirt with a black lace trim cami and chunky knit cardigan, this time with black OTK boots and a black clutch. Similarly, I styled this rust colored ruffle cheetah print skirt with a neutral oversized turtleneck sweater, same boots and swapped the clutch for a crossbody bag.
Varying prints and textures can be intimidating at first, but can be super easy to incorporate into your looks if you have a solid foundation. Investing in good classic basics allows the versatility of pairing with trendier pieces. And of course, (as pictured in my Nike head to toe look in the last image), the basics will never go out of style, are always chic and will forever be my preferred choice!
