Flares are just about the most exciting thing to happen to denim since distressed skinny jeans in my closet. I bet you never thought you’d see so many women abandon their skinny jeans for that wide leg flare bell bottoms. But if you’re a skinny leg lover, let me tell you why you should try your first pair of flares. Bells help elongate your legs and make you look about 7” taller, especially if you wear a high waist pair and platforms.

Here are some do’s and dont’s to flares:
DO’S:

Go wild and try flares in other colors and prints. A pair of white flares with a denim or chambray shirt is the perfect summertime look. For fall, find yourself a good pair of dark denim flares and pair with your favorite moto jacket and aviator sunglasses for the ultimate chic look. Make sure to hem your jeans for the shoes you plan to wear. If you don’t want to hem your jeans like myself, make sure that the hemline of the jeans is almost hitting the floor. I tend to look for flare jeans with a 35” inseam, that way I can wear my 7” heels to make my legs look even longer. Wearing flares with any kind of heel will make your legs look mega long! If you don’t want to wear super high heels, you can try a chunky heel, strappy sandals or wedges. For a little more casual comfortable look you can wear a pointed toe flat.

Don’ts

Don’t buy flares that overwhelm your legs. They should be fitted at the knees and then flare out a little. When getting your flares hemmed, make sure you have a pair for flats and a pair for heels. Don’t wear the same flares with flats as you do with heels. You will only end up tearing up the hem and you might trip.

  1. OK I have not ventured back to flares yet, but these tips are super helpful. This outfit is AMAZING. The bralette looks so good peeking out of tanks and I love the belt and the bag and the cardigan!

  2. Flared jeans are so elongating and elegant, I like to pair them with a billowy top and ankle-strap sandals. Love how you styled this look with a cozy cardi (perfect for Fall) thanks for these great tips!

  4. So glad to see this, as I still only wear flared or wide leg baggy jeans. I’m 5’3″, and I learned at a young age that if I’m to wear flare or wide leg, it’ll either be wicked short, or super long on me. So obviously I buy my jeans long. I’m resigned to the fact that I’m going to be walking on the backs of my pants for eternity! Oh well, at least the style around here has and is for the hems to be dragging on the ground. They are wicked frayed, dirty and tattered, but I stopped caring years ago back in high school. I’m also a huge baggy, wide leg overalls fan, and those as well are really tattered on the back hem from them being about 4 inches overlength. I do tend to trip over my long jeans and overalls also, so I need to be more careful!

  5. I have always been a hippie and love flares.. I’m born in the 70’s. Last weekend in the wind I tripped over my bell bottoms on a windy night and flew crashing into the road, not pretty. Be careful πŸ˜πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈβœŒπŸΌπŸ€•
