There is nothing more frustrating than trying on a pair of jeans in the department store and committing to drop over $200 on them and then getting home and feeling disappointed by your decision. I want to make sure we all don’t have this experience anymore in our life. So this past weekend, I headed to Norstrom to try on all types of jeans. Classic blue jeans will always be a year long style staple, so it’s important to find ones that do your body some justice. Here are some tips for making sure you always find the right pair of jeans for your body.
The first thing you need to do to select the best fitting jeans is to know your body type. Whether your body is the slim body type, athletic body type, curvy body type, or full-figured body type. Also you want to pay attention to your body shape and height.
If you’re busty:
A wide leg fit will help balance out your bust, so you don’t appear top heavy. Also, choosing a lighter color wash will move the eyes downward and away from your chest. Go for a low rise, bootcut or wide leg pants to achieve this balancing effect.
If you’re curvy:
Girls with curvy body types must be very careful to select a style that will create a slimming effect in all the right areas. Show off that body by picking a pair that hugs your assets and flatters the not so favorite features. A lot of denim brands now make fits that are marked “curvy,” which just means that these jeans are made specifically for curvier figures. A plus side is they usually have some stretch to them. Stretchy denim is always my go to for buying jeans. Denim with stretch seems to work for a majority of body types. I suggest trying a low rise curvy skinny jeans. If you’re a curvy girl with a small waist you can wear high waisted trousers because the cut will flatter your tiny middle area. If you’re concerned with your backside, larger pockets can conceal what you don’t want to show. If you are trying to create a slimming effect, make sure to look for a dark wash of denim. If you want to hide some of your not so favorite curves, straight leg jeans will help balance out your curves.
If you’re apple shaped:
Apple shaped ladies need the denim to give a little more in the waistline, because they tend to carry their weight around the middle. Choose a fit that has a straight leg. Try and stay of a super skinny, tight fitting denim and avoid high waisted jeans, which will only draw negative attention to one’s middle area.
If you’re pear shaped:
A pear shaped body tends to carry weight in the lower half of the body such as in the hips, back side, and legs. While looking for jeans, try to avoid high waisted jeans. They will shorten your legs and create a disproportionate effect. Try to look for mid-rise slim boot cut jeans that will create an ideal look that will flatter the curvy features.
Petite:
If you’re on the petite side, the perfect flares can help give you a little extra length and make your legs longer. Don’t limit yourself to petite style jeans because of your height since denim is so easy to alter.
