How to contour with Jackie from Truth and Beauty
Contouring can be a bit daunting and challenging for some. Believe me, I was one of those people who feared attempting to contour my face. I was scared of not blending well enough, not using the right color for my skin tone, and not placing the dark color in the correct spots. I have been victim to what I would like to call, “the chin strap”. What is the chin strap you ask? Well one time, I had attempted to contour my face, I went out shooting for my blog, and upon looking at all the photos I had taken, I realized I never blended the dark shading. It was literally a straight line on my chin area. Needless to say, those photos were never used, and I began my search for the perfect way to contour my face!
As many of you know, I go to Truth & Beauty near my home in Long Island, and get my makeup done weekly for my blog photos. It is so nice to have a makeup artist who knows what they are doing, do my makeup. While I have been going to Truth & Beauty, the makeup artists there have really helped me learn how to apply my makeup properly, especially when it comes to contouring. I have to say that now, I am not so bad at it, and I definitely don’t fear it as much as I once did.
There are so many ways to contour your face, but one of the best ways that I have found is using the “3” method. You basically contour the side of your face making the number three, starting at your forehead, looping in at your cheek bone, and then coming down to your chin line, which will give the illusion of a more defined facial structure. If you suck in your cheeks, like a fish movement, you will find where you should apply the contour to your cheeks. Also, I like to contour the sides of my nose a little bit to give it more of a smaller effect. I then will highlight the bridge of my nose, which helps give the illusion that it is smaller.
One of the biggest steps of contouring is to also highlight as well. If you are adding darkness, or shadows to your face, you also want to add back in some light into the high points of your face. I do this on my cupid’s bow, the bridge of my nose, a little bit on the center of my forehead, under my eyes for a brighter and more awake look, as well as the high pints of my cheeks.
