I absolutely love bang bang chicken and shrimp. It is one of my go to orders from any Thai restaurants. And it’s not even the deliciously breaded and fried meat, it’s that bang bang dipping sauce that just makes my mouth water. I wanted to try to recreate this delicious but with a healthy alternative that could be enjoyed by all, even by my keto peeps out there. I did this by simply swapping the flour to coat the shrimps for coconut flour. The taste is insanely delicious and you don’t have to feel any sort of guilt or remorse for indulging on some bangin’ bang bang shrimp! I am also including the recipe to make the Bang Bang Sauce, sugar free!
Here is what you’ll need to recreate my low carb bang bang shrimp recipe:
Ingredients For Shrimp:
1 lb of shrimp peeled and deveined
1 teaspoon of baking powder
½ cup of Coconut Flour
¼ cup of Moon cheese pepper jack flavor
¼ teaspoon of sea salt
⅛ teaspoon of pepper
1 large egg
Oil to fry
Ingredients For Bang Bang Sauce:
¼ cup Mayo (I used Hellmann’s Light Mayo)
3 tablespoons of Sweet Chili Sauce (I use Mea Ploy)
1 teaspoon of Sriracha
¼ teaspoon of Lime Juice
*Optional, 1 tablespoon of fresh chives to garnish*
Step One: Add baking powder, coconut flour, moon cheese, salt and pepper into a large, shallow mixing bowl and mix these ingredients together. Mix until the cheese softens and becomes a flour/breading texture.
Step Two: Beat the large egg in a separate bowl from the breading mixture.
Step Three: *Keep a plate off to the side next to your bowls* Dip each shrimp individually first into the beaten egg then coat in the breading mixture. Place each shrimp on the plate off to the side until all of your shrimps are perfectly and evenly coated.
Step Four: In a large frying pan pour oil over high heat.
Step Five: Keep a plate to the side of your frying pan with a paper towel lined on top of the plate.
Step Six: Add breaded shrimps to the heated frying pan and fry on each side for approximately 1 minute. Put shrimps on the paper towel lined plate to drain of excess oil.
Step Seven: *Bang Bang Sauce* Add mayo, lime juice, sriracha and sweet chili sauce to a bowl and mix together with a fork.
Step Eight: Place your cooked, breaded shrimps on a serving plate. Drizzle bang bang sauce on top of the shrimps and put a side of the bang bang sauce for dipping. If using chives, add a pinch to garnish and serve!

I’ve never seen moon cheese so I’m wondering if I can substitute pepper Jack like maybe the block style or the kind in a bag that’s already shredded
They sell moon cheese at whole foods or on amazon 🙂
