Fredericia, Denmark was one of my stops on Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of The Sea’s. I was on my way to meet the Danes! The population of Fredericia is 51,000. It was founded in 1650 by Frederik II as a fortress- town. Prior to my arrival here, I was told that the Danes are considered the happiest people in the world and that Denmark is the happiest place. Which after visiting, I found to be 100% true. The people from Denmark live a certain way and their lifestyles help contribute to their happiness. They live by certain guidelines. One of them is called Hygge which means a special way of being together in a relaxed atmosphere. While here in America, we work ourselves to the bone. Working late nights and weekends, collecting as many hours as possible. While in Denmark, they believe working later than 5:30 is a sin and absolutely crazy. I think this is something that should definitely be brought over to America. Their society is based greatly on equality. Not only gender equality but equality under the law. They rank on top with surveys about low corruption and trust. When it comes to trust, Denmark thrives off it and bases most of its society on it. Unlike people here, the Danes are considered extremely trusted people in their words and institutions.

Ninety percent of Denmark’s population speaks Danish. It’s considered one of the only cultural barriers they have. Some of the major differences between Britain and the United States vs. Denmark is that Danes seem to value the more important things in life that we here and in Britain seem to lack or not focus on. Also, the Danes actually have trust in the system and their government and fully believe in gender equality all the way around. In my opinion, we and everyone else should start living like they do in Denmark. It is such a happy place. I felt happier just being there. Not to mention how smart and inventive the Danes are. They invented bluetooth! I don’t know where I would be without it.

June temperatures can be in the mid 60s to 70s so wearing layers you can take off is always key. Being a tourist for a day you want to look chic yet comfortable, I opted to wear my favorite pair of flare jeans and my signature cardigan. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am that flare jeans have made a comeback. Pairing it with a lace up cami and Gucci crossbody, I was ready to take on Fredericia in style. My experience in Denmark was unreal. All of the locals were extremely nice and didn’t make me feel like an unwanted tourist. Denmark will definitely go down as one of my favorite places I’ve traveled too.
