During my trip to London, I went to so many delicious restaurants and saw so many amazing and beautiful places but my favorite by far was my visit to The Zetter Townhouse Clerkenwell’s cocktail lounge. The Zetter Townhouse is a 13-bedroom townhouse hotel located in the heart of East London. The cocktail lounge can be described as, “a sumptuous and intriguing place, feeling more like the private residence of a most beloved and eccentric Great Aunt.”
We enjoyed a traditional Afternoon Tea the menu included an array of thinly sliced sandwiches and hearty pasties. The cocktail menu consists of unique recipes that pay homage to the area’s distilling heritage. The cocktail pairings with the afternoon tea menu complement each other magnificently!
I am a bubbly girl, so I opted to enjoy my afternoon tea snacks with some delicious champagne. The afternoon tea menu which we obviously ordered came on a beautiful tier serving tower and included a selection of finger sandwiches from cucumber & crème fraiche to cave aged cheddar & tomato all were light and delicious.
We also received scones which included freshly baked plain & raisin scones with a side of cornish clotted cream & strawberry preserve. Scones are always my favorite but these were out of this world! They were the perfect amount of buttery and crumbly and were absolutely irresistible.
Our afternoon tea also came with raspberry & rose macaroons, gingerbread cake, rum syrup, salted caramel cream & pistachio and peanut & chocolate choux bun. These were definitely my favorite! The raspberry and rose macaroon were as light as air and tasted delectable! I am not a big chocolate eater, but from what I heard the peanut and chocolate choux bun’s were actually amazing!
What I have learned is that Afternoon Tea needs to become a thing in the United States, it’s an excuse to enjoy a glass of champagne and some delicious sweets to break up your day! I am all for bringing afternoon tea to the states!
